Many of us have been succumbing to a variety of winter “wogs” that have been causing common cold and flu symptoms or vomiting & diarrhoea with abdominal pains.

You will no doubt, find that some of these simple home remedies will provide you with the relief you are needing.


At the first sign of discomfort take herbs that I would recommend personally, that have antiviral and antibacterial properties, and that are a cleanser and stimulant to the lymphatic system, which is a part of the defence system.  Certain vitamins and minerals will work in a similar manner, taken at my recommended dosage.  Smear garlic or onion juice on the soles of the feet, put plastic wrap around the feet, put on a pair of socks and place a hot water bottle at the feet once you have retired to bed; rest and work on “sweating out” the cold.


4 drops of warm onion juice in the ear and a clove of garlic placed between the teeth and gum on the affected side.


Sage tea, 1 cup 3 times daily, abstain from solid food and drink volumes of fruit and vegetable juices diluted 50/50 with water.


Gargle with equal parts of Sage and Thyme with a pinch of Cayenne pepper.  Apply a wet, cold face washer to the throat, cover with a dry hand towel, repeat once the cold cloth warms up.


Warm to hot footbath and light massage of the upper back , shoulders and neck.  Place a cold spoon at the point where your head joins your neck.


Drink lots of water, in acute conditions, eat only white rice with apple sauce made from raw apple puree. After improvement add in yoghurt, especially beneficial for infant diarrhoea, as are bananas and ripe pawpaw.  Tale Vit C, 100mg every hour and chew a raw garlic clove with each meal, take charcoal tablets. One dessertspoon of cornflour mixed to a runny paste, taken orally, can resolve the problem. Carob or cinnamon drinks are helpful too. An homoeopathic remedy that I stock and prescribe in clinic is very effective.


Ginger alleviates all types of nausea, the very best remedy has proven to be homoeopathic spray available on prescription from myself.
