THE PHLEGMATIC OR LYMPHATIC CONSTITUTION

These people have  a weakness in the LYMPHATIC system with tendencies towards glandular swellings and excess production of mucus or phlegm.   They are hyper-sensitive to magnetic fields and are blondes and redheads, with rounded features, blue eyes and they look young for their age.

Invariably the skin feels cool, they look pale and the muscles take on a relaxed tone.  Loss of fluids makes the LYMPHATIC TYPE feel weak and they assimilate their food poorly.

If through tension or spasm, they do not excrete their waste fluids, they become water-logged, developing dropsy; then it is necessary to purify the blood and take an effecient diuretic.

Glandular swelling and inflammation responds to the following glandular tonics:

  1.  yolk of an egg in orange juice
  2. glass of orange juice with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of codliver or halibut oil
  3. glass of grapefruit juice and 1 tablespoon of honey
  4. vitality tonic to be taken on rising – 6 almonds, 3 pitted dates, 1 tablespoon wheatgerm, 1/2 teaspoon honey, grind and add 1 glass of almond milk

This type of constitution crave carbohydrate or starchy foods, they must eat plain foods, severely restricting starch, focusing particularly on iron and potassium-rich foods.

Bathing in sea water is recommended, so also hydrotherapy [not cold water]  and considering a tendency toward prolapsed organs, abdominal exercises on a slant board are an efficient preventative measure.

Diseases common to the LYMPHATIC TYPE are:  anemia, weakness, obesity, dropsy, diabetes, asthma and psoriasis.

Dietetic suggestions:  potatoes in jackets, wholemeal bread, bran, nuts, berries, apples, grapes, dried fruit, tomatoes, fig, peach, apricot, cherries, plums, date.

Vegetables:  cabbage, lettuce, radish, spinach, onions, garlic, leek, cucumber, turnips.

Healing herbs for the LYMPHATIC TYPE:  peppermint, spearmint, aniseed, shepherd’s purse, dandelion, chickweed, agar-agar, irish moss, bladderwrack, horse-radish and fenugreek seed.
